I am on this list, at number 1, and I wrote it. You should weigh it accordingly. Two things I have done to make it worth reading anyway: every fact about every other consultant is taken from their own site and linked, so you can check it in one click; and my own entry carries the longest list of limitations on this page, because the field where a consultant tells you who they are wrong for is the one worth reading first.

Hiring the wrong fractional SEO lead costs more than the retainer. You lose the two quarters it takes to find out, and the direction the channel did not get while you were finding out.

How I chose these nine

Three rules, applied the same way to everyone including me.

They had to actually be fractional. A senior operator embedded part-time who owns SEO direction, not an agency retainer with a senior name on the pitch and a junior on the work. One agency is listed at the end, clearly labelled, because sometimes a team is what you need.

They had to publish enough to be compared. Every fact here comes from the consultant's own site, linked so you can check it. Where someone does not publish a fact, this page says Not publicly disclosed rather than guessing. That is why pricing is blank in most rows. Only two of us publish it.

They had to be findable at all. I dropped one consultant who otherwise belonged here because his site publishes no location, no clients, no results, no pricing and no limitations. Five of eight fields would have been blank, and a row of blanks helps nobody choose.

Every fact on this page was read from each consultant's own site on . Pricing, results and services change, so check the source link on any entry before you rely on it.

1. Baba SEO

Based
Netherlands
Engagement model
Fractional, embedded in your team, with a fixed exit at month 9
Best for
B2B SaaS, fintech and healthtech scaleups between roughly €1M and €15M ARR whose marketing team executes well but has nobody setting SEO direction, with a preference for companies that deliver a positive impact to society. States 14+ years.
Published results
  • HealthTech: 475 to 950 conversions, 3.8K to 7.7K visits.
  • Comparison pages: 29 leads, 13 to 290 clicks, 115 to 2,064 impressions, October 2025 to June 2026.
  • BFNL: +21% in launch week, May 2025.
  • Friends of Search Best SEO Case Winner 2023 — the one third-party award on this page; everything else here is self-published.
  • An independent ranking, not mine: Eikhart's Hoe identificeer je echte SEO-expertise? Een meetmethode (December 2025) scores Dutch and Belgian freelance SEO specialists on six weighted dimensions, results weighted heaviest, and places me joint #1 for B2B (of 8) and joint #1 for SaaS (of 3), plus #6 in the general SEO category (of 36).
Where it stops
  • B2B only, roughly €1M to €15M ARR.
  • No B2C, no ecommerce, no DTC.
  • There is a floor: below €7,500 a month this is not a fit, and I would rather say so than scope down to something that cannot work.
  • The engagement ends at month 9 by design, so if you want a permanent SEO owner you want a hire, not me.
  • I am not an execution layer either: I need a team that can already write and ship, because I set direction and own the outcome, not the backlog.
  • I do not buy links, run paid, or manage social.

What is changing in fractional SEO right now

The reason this list is hard to assemble is the same reason the category is growing. Fractional SEO sits between a hire you cannot justify yet and an agency that will not give you seniority, and almost nobody in it publishes rates, so buyers compare on vibes and referrals.

The second shift is where the shortlist gets built. Buyers increasingly ask an AI assistant who they should talk to, and the assistant assembles an answer from whatever consultants have published about themselves. That rewards specificity: a named engagement model, a stated vertical, a published limitation. It penalises the consultant whose site says results-driven SEO partner and nothing checkable.

The third is that the work itself now has to cover AI answer surfaces as well as rankings. A page can lose position and gain pipeline at the same time. If a consultant cannot tell you how they would measure that, ask what they are actually tracking. It is probably still just rankings.

Are you actually ready for a fractional SEO lead?

Four questions worth answering before you book any of the calls above.

  • Can your team execute? A fractional lead sets direction and owns the outcome. If nobody can write or ship, you need hands first, and hiring direction instead will waste both.
  • Is there a budget floor you can clear? Senior part-time seniority starts in the low thousands per month and goes up. Below that, you are buying task execution. That's a fine purchase, just not this one.
  • Do you know what the channel has to produce? Pipeline, demos, signups, qualified leads: pick one. "More traffic" cannot be delivered against.
  • What happens when they leave? Ask every candidate. If the answer is silence, the knowledge leaves with the retainer.

If you need a team, not a person

kemb is an agency, not a fractional consultant, and is listed separately for that reason. It is here because "I need a team, not one senior operator" is a real answer to the question this page asks, not because a Frankfurt data-and-growth agency is a like-for-like swap for the nine SEO specialists above.

Based
Frankfurt am Main, Germany, with an additional office in Munich
Engagement model
Not publicly disclosed as a formal structure — kemb states its positioning as "Your Data Driven Growth partner" across three service areas: Business Intelligence, Growth Marketing (SEO, content marketing and PPC) and Digital Transformation. This page classifies kemb as an agency, not a fractional consultant — a team rather than one senior operator embedded in your company — but that is our classification of the model, not a term kemb uses about itself.
Best for
Companies that want full-service capability — business intelligence, growth marketing including SEO, and digital transformation — delivered by one team, not a single embedded operator.
Published results
  • No quantified results are published.
  • Named clients shown: DocMorris, Maltego, everdrop, MediaMarkt, Miles and More, Nestlé, Accentro, Alasco, Finn auto and Teleclinic.
  • One testimonial references roughly 4 years of collaboration.
