Most SEO consultants are paid to be needed. I'm paid to become unneeded.

The 9-Month Exit Strategy is a senior SEO engagement with a built-in end date. Nine months, then your team runs it without me. That is the deliverable.

Key facts

Duration: 9 months, then a clean exit
Scope: strategy, execution, team training
Deliverable: your team runs SEO without me

Two ways to buy senior SEO

Most retainers are designed to continue, not to conclude. This engagement is the opposite.

Pro
The 9-Month Exit Strategy
  1. Your total cost is known on day one: from €67,500 all-in.
  2. Knowledge transfer is the deliverable: a client operating system with documentation and presentations.
  3. Handover and exit in month 9, planned from day one.
  4. After the exit: the Quarterly SEO Board, one day per quarter.
  5. The engagement is judged on what your team can do alone.
Contra
The open-ended retainer
  1. No end date. Month 26 feels like month 6, only more expensive.
  2. The strategy lives in the consultant’s head and leaves with them.
  3. Reports instead of capability: your team executes tickets.
  4. Renewals on autopilot. Could anyone say what breaks if you paused it?
  5. Total cost: whatever it grows into.

The 9-month arc

The exit is not a promise at the end. It is scoped, scheduled, and graded from day one.

Month 1

Discovery and strategy

I map your organic performance, your ICP, and your pipeline. The scoping doc names what your team will be able to do alone at month 9, before the work starts.

Months 2–6

Build and train

I set the strategy and oversee execution while your team learns to run it. By month 6, every recurring task has a written process and a walkthrough recording.

Months 7–8

The operating system comes together

Documentation, presentations, and processes are completed while your team runs more of the work each sprint.

Month 9

Handover + exit

The client operating system is handed over, and you get a summary of what was built, written for your CEO. Your team runs the system, and I stay involved through the Quarterly SEO Board.

What exit-ready means

Deliverables framed as capability, not output. If only I can repeat it, it doesn't count.

01.
A client operating system

Documentation, presentations, playbooks, keyword maps. An operating system for your SEO that you own and your team runs.

02.
Documentation your team can use without me

Every recurring task has a written process and a recording. If it only works when I explain it, it isn't delivered.

03.
Monthly capability reviews

The monthly review grades what your team can do alone, not just what shipped. Capability is the metric.

04.
An owner who can defend the strategy

By month 9, someone on your team can walk your CEO through the strategy, the numbers, and the next quarter without me on the call.

After the exit: the Quarterly SEO Board

The relationship doesn't end at month 9; it changes shape. The Quarterly SEO Board is one day per quarter to review the strategy, pressure-test decisions, and keep your team sharp. It exists to keep you independent, not to recreate dependency. You shouldn't need me forever. That is not a tagline; it is the design constraint every engagement is scoped against.

Investment

From €7,500 per month depending on scope and weekly hours. Nine months. That puts the full engagement at €67,500 and up, and your exact number is fixed on day one.

An open-ended retainer can't give you that number. Its total cost is whatever it grows into. And if a single MQL from your sales team is worth €5,000–€50,000 in pipeline, the engagement pays for itself well before the exit.
